I always thought this song was a direct reply to the rumors Orzabel and Smith were a couple.
I don't know where I heard that but then that was almost 30 years ago. Knowing they weren't gay I just figured the rumors were torrent then and Orazabel wrote this song because of them.
In response to the above comment I NEVER ONCE thought religion was the reason. I can't figure out where he got that impression.
Whatever the reason the way they put "believe what you want, I don't care" into a meaningful yet enjoyable song is a gift.
