I always thought this song was a direct reply to the rumors Orzabel and Smith were a couple. I don't know where I heard that but then that was almost 30 years ago. Knowing they weren't gay I just figured the rumors were torrent then and Orazabel wrote this song because of them. In response to the above comment I NEVER ONCE thought religion was the reason. I can't figure out where he got that impression. Whatever the reason the way they put "believe what you want, I don't care" into a meaningful yet enjoyable song is a gift. |

I like your thoughts about every idea is an opiates. It is a different phrase on a realistic view. However, I am not familiar with the song "Quiet Ones" (I will look that up), I guess Roland used that line "Nothing really matters anyway" in another song on the Hurting, I just can't get which song exactly because I've got the album on now. He wrote the song when he was 18! I didn't think I could be more impressed with his talent but I see I was wrong. Thanks for your input it was very interesting. |
