I don't see this as anti-Christian at all. I see it as the guilt of becoming someone's idol as a celebrity from a Christian point of view. (This is irrelevant; but I personally am an Atheist.)
"In case it gets away from us
Don’t pull it close,
the damage revealed the cost
And it wasn’t worth it, but they’ll never know"
To me this means; we want to remain blind to the impact that we are having on people. In case we start to realize this, let's push it out of our minds because all of this is probably not worth the damage that we are doing - and to make things worse, the people we are affecting most will never even know (probably their fans.)
"To keep in mind the line that separates idols"
They feel as if they are being worshipped or revered as idols which is not OK in Christianity.
"If the world is a dream and nothing is worth it
Unless you have a god. (We’re all going to hell)"
"If" is conditional. They aren't sure what the true nature of reality is, but if God is really a huge and integral part of life and really is the purpose for us all being here, the band and those who worship them as idols are going to hell
"But we wont be saved we’ll live as slaves to love
What god takes away, let’s refill all your holes with mud"
I see "mud" as worldly, spiritually harmful behaviors... More idolization, possibly drugs and alcohol, etc.
This portion is saying that instead of seeking God for the emptiness, they will continue to fill the holes in their lives with this "mud."
"“Purchase your tickets; I’m kicking your crosses down”"
Really he's saying "pay me to destroy your religion/chances at getting into heaven." By being my fan and listeing to my music and holding me as an idol you may be trading your chance of eternal salvation.
"And all the voices sound just like you
I’ll be there-
Breathe in-
It’s been so long (I’ve felt so wrong again)
I fixed myself up nice but you never came
The words rolled off our backs and sound the same
I’ll be waiting-
I hope that it’s worth it but I’ll never know"
I think this is saying he was betrayed by religion of God in the past, maybe he felt that he did everything right but still got the short end of the stick in life so he turned away.. Got older and more rebellious and lost faith entirely but he still feels some of the guilt because of the unknowns. Maybe he is doing something sinful here, maybe God is real, maybe he is harming people by performing and being revered as an idol. All he can really do is hope that the actions he takes are worth is and reap more positive than negative repercussions in the end.
