I think this song is about a couple and their time has come. But the guy has accepted it peacefully and he wants to face the end together with his love. Oh god i love how this song can be depressing and happy at the same time...

It's like the other side of the story with the people holding onto their loved ones knowing it's the end and finally coming to terms with it." @Yunuscanrev I agree it definitely is about death ... but of both or just one in the partnership??? The "us" at the end seems to suggest they are both now dead.
