So this is just completely my own interpretation. I just got back from a mission trip and in lots of countries you cannot have open religious views and this song seemed to fit so perfectly. "She spoke words that would melt in your hand, she spoke words of wisdom" Makes me think of a missionary sharing the gospel to people who have never heard it before. "To the basement people to the basement, many surprises await you" You have to be secretive when sharing the gospel, it can be dangerous so they would meet in basements so when the police came they wouldn't find them. In the first stance it sounds exciting. New stories and ideas of God await you in the basement. "You hid there last time you know we are going to find you" The police know they are in the basement. They know about their hiding place "sick in the car sick cause your not up for going out on the main streets completing your mission" The missionary knows the risk involved. They are risking their lives and the lives of their friends or family In the next verse when it repeats "to the basement people to the basement, many surprises await you" I picture the police coming and they know they are caught "you hid there last time you know we're going to find you" I know it's a song about Undercover Martyn but I picture Undercover Martyr. Completely my own thoughts-not influenced by the band
