I always considered it to be about love. Waiting in the rain for someone is a sign of love. He calls her evil and negative things because he has conflicting feelings about love. He is afraid to love and be loved, but he can't help it because she sets his heart on fire. He would rather be alone and void than have to deal with the emotions of love.
