Why do you stand in the rain
And wait for me?
With dark clothes
Dark thoughts on your mind
you evil little girl

Evil, evil little girl
You were born to make me cry
Who am I to be here right now?
Who am I to be here?

Take my heart
And throw it in a fire
Your mother must have run a school
You were trained to make me cry
Who am I to be here right now?
Who am I to be here?

Evil little girl
You were born to make me cry
Evil little girl
You were born to say goodbye
Evil little girl
You were born to make me cry

My personal interpretation is that he calls her "evil" because she makes him feel. And he doesn't want to. It's too painful. She can make him cry. She stands out in the rain and he asks why she even waits for him. He even asks "Who am I to be here right now?" She was born to say goodbye because he can never be there for her like she is for him because he just can't get better. It's too much. Maybe he feels broken. So she stands outside with dark thoughts, abandoned. But she waits all the same; because she loves him and she can't leave. She can throw his heart in flames by sending him into a world that he doesn't want to live in; a world of his own pain. In the end, she'll always have to say goodbye to him because he cannot ever figure out how to heal. She was born to make him cry. She always waits. But she'll always say goodbye. Very painful.

I always considered it to be about love. Waiting in the rain for someone is a sign of love. He calls her evil and negative things because he has conflicting feelings about love. He is afraid to love and be loved, but he can't help it because she sets his heart on fire. He would rather be alone and void than have to deal with the emotions of love. Much of what was said in the below comment.

Really? No one's commented on this song? I think its about how he feels like this girl has just been waiting for him so she can make him suffer, "with dark clothes dark thoughts on your mind" and she's waiting for him in the "rain", a time when he is already depressed and desperate for someone to lead him out of his depression. He asks who he is to be here now, as in he never thought this could happen to him. "Your mother must have run a school" i think means that he thinks women in general train their daughters to break hearts. Also left out of the lyrics above is "You were born to sing along", saying she was born to play along with how he felt for her until she was ready to say goodbye. Let me know what you think, this is easily one of the best songs on this album.

I've seen for me that this is a man looking back at his boyhood schooldays, where he was bullied/tormented by this evil little girl. She took his heart and throwed it in a fire. People saw it, but no one did something because her mother runned the school.

Even if it's years ago, he still has not emotionally recovered. He is still relives the humilitation, he still is marked. He can't belive the torment is over, because of the damage it has done to him. Who is he to be here now?

Perhaps a bit too concrete interpretation, but it was what I imagined.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
