Safe and Sound Lyrics

No matter how I look at it, the lyrics seem to be speaking of a holy or spiritual belief. I hear the verses as the holy entity promising his people: "I will raise you up...", "I could show you love...", etc. The chorus seems to me like the followers' response, feeling protected no mater what the situation is, including "... even if we're six feet underground, I know that we'll be safe and sound..."

I can't express enough how much I hate it when people try to insert their religion into places it doesn't belong. He's making promises to a woman, essentially offering her the world. Why would anyone say "hey God, if you come with me we'll be safe" you'd think it'd be the other way around, right?

You're trying to shove a square peg into a round hole.

My Opinion

I don't disagree.. "I could fill your cup, you know my river won't evaporate" - very very strong biblical reference.. Many of the lyrics are almost spot on with Jesus' words in the New Testament.. So for the person who hates religion being throw into this song where it doesn't fit, sorry my friend it's there.. More so than a lot of songs..

@katoshi808 + @ckvvl: this is actually what brought me here. I wasn't quite sure, but then I read the lyrics. It's spot on! Giveaway is "I could fill your cup, you know my river won't evaporate".

There are a number of other references too, that I read as more than mere coincidence.
