She says in a interview: "The song's sort of about being – I was assaulted and I had a really hard time engaging in any types of relationship with men, because I was just so terrified of men for a while." (http://www.spin.com/#articles/grimes-interview-2012-big-year) So the fact that the song is called "Oblivion" is obviously her commenting and reflecting on herself concerning this experience when it initially happened. The juxtaposition of light upbeat sound and heavy meaning (much like "Pumped up Kicks - Foster the People) almost seems like a cartharsis. With this in mind the lyrics fall together quite well to tell the story of what this incident has done to her.

"I never walk about, After dark, It's my point of view, That someone could break your neck Coming up behind you always coming and you never have a clue" It's funny the way she words this, rather than focusing on why it's her point of view (which she most likely doesn't want to do) she's giving a sort example to follow... words of warning to others. "And now I look behind all the time, I will wait forever, Always looking straight, Thinking counting all the hours you wait" She's always expecting her attacker to come back, now than it's happened, she'll be prepared next time, because now she'll always be alert. Looking straight ahead as to not give in to her fear, walking straight to the goal, rather than meandering. She's also wonders how long he must have been waiting there for her... "See you on a dark night" poetically this lyric makes the song like a twisted romance... between her and her attacker... she will always see him on a dark night, in her head.
