I bought this album shortly after a girl I really liked rejected me. I have never dated anyone before (still haven't dated anybody before). I have Asperger's which greatly reduces my chances to find dates because of my social awkwardness. This song reminds me of two streams of thought: 1) After loving someone as wonderful as her and being rejected by her, can I learn to love again? 2) Because of my asperger's and being unable to find someone, is it worth trying to love someone if i can't be loved in return.
I have a 20 year old Aspie son and I understand the heart ache you have experienced as you navigate the dating world with NTs. Hang in there for Aspies are truly gentle souls who NTs commonly miss the opportunity to see the world through the eyes of a Aspie.

Your understanding of the lyrics as an Aspie really hit home for me. Hang in there and you will find a woman that who will truly understands the truth, honesty and loyalty that an Aspie partner can provide.

Hang in there, bud. Life's funny how it works because I was browsing through songs trying to find if someone had the same experience, and lo and behold I came across your comment. I recently experienced the exact same situation that you did. I, too, suffer from social anxiety, and my date tanked. I was subsequently rejected. It stings, especially when I really liked her as well. But you know what I think about it? It's her loss. Just as the same as that girl you liked. Both of them didn't...

Both of them didn't give either of us an opportunity to find out more. I mean, who's really themselves on a first date? It's so nerve-wracking. She was not worth your time because she couldn't look past what inhibits you and like you for just being you. I wish there was an easy answer to get over a girl, but there truly isn't. It just takes time to get over someone. It's as simple as that. Even though it's been nearly a year since you wrote, I guarantee you will find the one that was meant for you later down the road. It happens when you least expect it. I keep telling myself that a lot and some of the time think it's bull, too. But life's a ride, you don't want to expect. In the meantime, focus on you and your happiness.
