I think this song is actually when the two people in the relationship are the ones who think it'll work and everyone else is telling them it won't work. They're trying to prove them wrong by fixing all their problems and working hard at the relationship but in the end the guy just can't take people constantly telling them they won't work and he leaves because it's too much for him. I think the tone just really has a tone of proving themselves to everyone else. I also think the "walk it off" is referring to ignoring what everybody else is saying about them.
