To me this song is about a man longing to be with a woman he can't be with right now. In the beginning of the song, he’s daydreaming about being with her. He thinks of her as an angel, he wants to be close to her. “It’s finally you and I,” the moment to be alone with her, he’s been waiting for so long.

He's so in love with her, but he can’t be with her, that’s why he’s saying “it wasn’t meant to feel like this, not without you.”

He knows that without her in it, his life wouldn’t make sense & would be meaningless. Everything he does leads back to her. He thinks they’re meant to be together. Their love is “written in the stars.”

He’s reassuring her not to be afraid, that one day he’ll be with her, through the laughter & pain. They can make it through anything. Through the mistakes he’s made, through his heartache, everything will always lead back to her because their love was “written in the stars.”

I don't think so (I mean your interpretation, of course:)

Yes, it's about love & longing.
