Deep, beautiful, intimate song, reminding me of Lhasa de Sela and others.
My interpretation:
"In this world" where there's not enough love and intimacy, I/we feel the need for signs of love. I don't believe I'd get them by asking for them directly, "I'd ask you for nothing" except for waiting for awhile. So if you would hold me when I fall, wouldn't it be a sign of love? By making myself fall (in what way is not specified) I test you, I am starting to hurt myself so I can get the last possible sign of love.
Sadly, this is what we do many times in our relationships. We stop being vulnerable and we don't show our emotions. We just go on hurting ourselves in a secluded own world.
I prefer to listen to the song from a melancholy frame of view and that makes it feel beautiful and deep. It also can be sensed from a despair, abandonment and depression perspective.
