I love this song. I also love the artist. It's about a woman who feels she is needed (or her time is) but not wanted. Like any woman, she wants to be desired as a woman, not because she is maternal or kind or helpful. She wants him to understand that she's not willing to be his friend. It's not the role she wants. She wants him to leave her behind due to his wants/needs being different from hers, and she is convinced they are different. I have a female friend who told someone she loved that it was 5 years and 40 lbs too late for them; she knew that she (the woman she loved) didn't try to woo her for the right reasons. And she knew it was probably why the woman kept her distance when she could have been in her life. Good song and deep meaning.
