I have always liked Boston since I was young in the 70’s. I think this is my favorite song by them and it is one of the reasons I began to play guitar. It is a type of neoclassical rock song, that is; it sounds like classical music in a way. Tom Scholz is an original with his effects and his background with the piano and engineering. The solo at the end is joyful and sad at the same time. It really is excellent the way he blends virtuosity with a feeling that does not come off as dry or clinical.
To me the song means that he would like to escape from the cold lifeless city and the sometimes thoughtless or cruel people one may find there.
It reminds me of driving in my car early in the morning out to my ski job, when the sun is shinning in my eyes on the interstate.
