I agree that "religion is man-made", as the song says. However, so many people who do not really seem to have a relationship with God are calling themselves "spiritual but not religious", all while looking down on the ones who truly do have a relationship with God as the ones who are "religious". This is something that the new agers and apostate, post-modern "Christians" do very often. When they refer to "religion", they apparently mean doctrine - even though the Bible, which is not a religious book, has clearly stated that "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for DOCTRINE, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Sadly, many in our day who take pride in "not following religion" are often the ones who are under the bondage of religion themselves without even realizing it. The fact that many of them look down on those who have a true relationship with God (with a contempt that sometimes verges on rage!) is proof that they themselves do not have that relationship.
