Hell of a past, refering to the Earths long history. Not attracted to the truth, religious people general don't like to believe evolution, or there is evidence that suggests evolution took place, and the earth and life is much older than the bible suggests.

Doubtful. There is no science which proves evolution; it is called the theory of evolution because it is only scientific theory unlike adaptation which is considered scientific law. Darwin was a Christian anyways my friend; however, I am more inclined to see the song as the speaker yielding to someone either internal or external because he or she has tried to hold on to the past for much to long.
