There was an excellent 2 hour documentary on the BBC recently (in 2 parts), during which Roger Taylor stated that everyone interprets this as being about Freddie dying, but actually Roger wrote the words and it was about leaving childhood behind/his children growing up, but that obviously because of what Freddie was going through, the words had a double meaning.
All songs on Innuendo are credited to all of Queen, whereas previously members of the band would claim ownership of the rights to a song. The fact they decided to share credits for all songs together, and therefore all song-writing royalties, shows how close the band came towards the end.
