Sometimes I get to feelin'
I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids, when we were young
Things seemed so perfect - you know ?
The days were endless, we were crazy - we were young
The sun was always shinin' - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know
The rest of my life's been - just a show
Those were the days of our lives
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one thing is true
When I look and I find I still love you
You can't turn back the clock, you can't turn back the tide
Ain't that a shame ?
Ooh, I'd like to go back one time on a roller coaster ride
When life was just a game
No use in sitting and thinkin' on what you did
When you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know
Better sit back and go - with the flow
'Cos these are the days of our lives
They've flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but some things remain
When I look and I find - no change
Those were the days of our lives yeah
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true
When I look and I find, I still love you
I still love you

There was an excellent 2 hour documentary on the BBC recently (in 2 parts), during which Roger Taylor stated that everyone interprets this as being about Freddie dying, but actually Roger wrote the words and it was about leaving childhood behind/his children growing up, but that obviously because of what Freddie was going through, the words had a double meaning.

All songs on Innuendo are credited to all of Queen, whereas previously members of the band would claim ownership of the rights to a song. The fact they decided to share credits for all songs together, and therefore all song-writing royalties, shows how close the band came towards the end.

    Beautiful song!

    @mazzauk

Technically the song's lyrics were written by Roger Taylor. Not Freddie Mercury.

Everytime I hear this song it makes me want to cry. That's about all I can say. I listen to it and wish that I could also "turn back the clock".

How true? We all wish we could go back to happier times. Freddie is writing this though when he knows he hasn't got much time left which makes it especially moving. I think he's sending a message out to us all to enjoy the time we have. the "i still love you" at the end was of course the very last thing that Freddie said on camera before he died. In the video you can see his pain, sorrow and regret but also a glint of satsifaction as he knows that although he is about to die, his music will live forever.

when the 'innuendo' album came out, i didn't really see this as one of the stronger songs...until i saw the video. at the end, when Freddie looks to the camera and says I still love you, it just melts your heart, because you know he means it and you know that that is his final goodbye. i now find it hard to listen to this, but it is still a beautiful song. anyways, that's what i think...

Did not know that cft19...I know the Innuendo album credits "Queen" as writing all the songs out of respect for the band. Do you know any other specific songs that were written by the others on Innuendo?

BTW, this song rules. I believe Freddie knew it'd be his "farewell" song, especially during the video shoot. He's an amazing figure in the music industry. I was so happy to see Queen make it to the R'N'R Hall of Fame. Well deserved.

This song has a bit in it for everyone, but I think Freddie personalised it with those four magic words at the end.Incredible video, incredible song, incredible band.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
