Just my $.02, but I think it means flattery leads you to compromising your values (a business deal, or meeting someone in a bar,) which will lead to an act that will be wrong for you and/or others. You may be the one doing the flattering, or the one receiving it. Whether you're talking about a sin or even just a bad money decision, its a bad outcome. If it is bad enough, it could eventually lead to 'the end' = your death, or destruction of your life as you know it.
