This song is actually about 1984. Everyone is the same in the novel. They're supposed to be the same at least.
"Nobody sees you when the mirror talks" The mirror is the picture that hides the telescreen in the novel. The telescreen that Julia and Winston don't know about until it talks when Julia and Winston were getting very close to their plan on taking down Big Brother.
People do see you when the mirror talks...
"I'm sinking more in this familiar hole"
The familiar hole is the memories of when Winston was a child and when his mother and sister supposedly died. He tries to remember what it was like before Big Brother came into power. Also, when Winston thinks about this little building(where he and Julia hide out) where he finds a journal and writes in it...
"A little smaller than it was before" it just means that he's getting closer to the memories..
"so perfect and afraid" They're perfect, but they're afraid that the lowest class, I can't remember the right term for them right now, but they're afraid the lower class will rebel and try to take down Big Brother because they have more freedom than the middle class. BigBrother doesn't care about the Lower Class except for the fact that they have the power to overthrow them. But they're too stupid to realize it.
"
They say the war is over"
The war is over between the classes, but not between the countries.
"I say it's just the start"
Winston believes it's time to fight back against Big Brother.
He and Julia have to hide themselves... Julia isn't as optimistic as Winston, but she still stays with him. And even though they're sent to Room101, they still remember each other when they're not supposed to. They should not have to be under such control..
