This song is about admiring someone you don't know well but you see often (ex. work, school, passing by) and you think they are wonderful/amazing/beautiful. However, you never attempt to talk to them because you realize this image you have built up for them is unrealistic and something they could never live up to, so instead you just pretend like it is true and keep admiring them from a far.
That's exactly my thought. This song is about platonic love, when you 'love' a person who you don't even know and you have the idea of how that person is and most of the time, the person is totally different.

And "mystique" is not all it's cracked up to be; life isn't a Hollywood film. Ya think all those elderly couples walking aorund holding hands and helping each other with their dentures have "mistique" in their relationship. Mystique is another name for lust, which in ALL relationships EVOLVES after the first few months of spending time together. If you want mystique, may I suggest you NEVER plan on having a long-term loving quality relationship. Stick with one night stands and summer flings. I've not done those (well, maybe once or twice:), but for me they weren't all that fulfilling...
