I'm pretty sure that the wand is lord gold's dick. (funny because big business is about the same thing, except a different person). Blah blah, some girl is becoming obsessed with having sex with a star, or maybe just putting men/aman on pedestals in general. I think that she eventually catches on that he is an empty man with weird, almost anti-emotions, and that the next two songs tie in.

My original idea about the second half of the album was some sort of prostitution ring that lord gold runs, but I haven't been able to analyze everything together. I'm not really all that sure, but all of the songs after shapeshifter tie into each other smoothly.

Nathan (the singer) has said that the more unassuming, the song is the more tortured it probably is deep down. So I doubt it's about sex.

In the documentary Earth Tour, Nathan talks about his cousin who died of heroin abuse. Perhaps the wand is a metaphor for heroin, and how the girl simply can't get enough? This makes the "she was looking for more than just a good time" lyric make sense as well...
