This song is about his mother not his grandmother, and i gotta say its one of my favourite songs of all time. but i dont understand why a little boy would address him as son??? can anyone answer me this? because it bugs me and ruins my perception of darius as a lyricist but i know he's great and theres probably a reason that i dont understand, maybe its cos im english i dont know??

I think, that is Darius as a young boy asking himself as an adult..still doesn't make a lot of sense but more sense than anything else my feeble mind can think of...but open to any other suggestions..

It is a South Carolina think. It is a slang. Even two men when they talk to each other you will hear them say "what are you doing son". Sorta like when you hear someone say "bless their heart". They are not praying but feeling sorry for you.

@mattstfc I don't think it's the little boy who actually says "now son". I think it's part of Darius' response.

Like this:

Little boy: Where you going? Darius: Now, son. I don't know where I'm going, boy, I only know where I'm from.
