Some people think New Perspective is about the splitting of Ryan and Jon form the band. Some people think it's about Brendon being a man slut and wanting a girl to go down on him. Some people don't even know what the hell it means. Well guess what, I figured it out. I know what the lyrics mean:
The song is about learning to be in love and not just to want a physical relationship. He's kind of torn between the two. He says, "Can we fast forward to go down on me..." (****) but then he's like, "Stop there, and let me correct it..." At first he just wants the physical thing but then he decides to do it the right way. "You come along because I love your face" is how he just likes her looks but then he says, "Divine Intervention, I wanna live a life from a new perspective" meaning that he wants to love her personality too. "But leaving now would be a good idea..." is like he's on her door step and instead of going in, he says 'goodnight' and calls her then next day. So he's leaving instead of moving too fast in the relationship because he's seeing things from a new perspective. "Inching through your bed..." is like he's about to make the move but then he says, "Instead, watch me go" and he doesn't. Being "praised from a new perspective" means that he wants her to love him for not moving too fast and doing things right. He would "wait and watch the hours fall in a hundred separate lines" means that he'll wait until the relationship is ready for the next step. "Seeing clear would be a bad idea" means that he really doesn't want to see clear in love, he just wants to be in love and be happy instead of dissecting things. And in the end he chooses to be in REAL love instead of phony love (i.e. physical relationship) and says, "I'm getting out of here." And the part of him that wants to "fast forward until you go down on me" fades out in the end because it doesn't control him anymore.
The "salty waves" are pretty much just his temptations. But "they'll never win."
That's the first time I think that somebody on this site made me think about something I'd missed in a song. I didn't get past the blowjob when i first started listening to it. nice work. if your analysis is true than it makes this song just that much better. still flippant and saucy like the best patd songs but a touch more relatable and well, interesting than i first thought. any cool layers you can garner from ke$ha?
