I think this song is kind of like a story/flashbacks.
Like the first verse is a flashback to how they used to be really good friends, and he obviously had feelings for this girl. "She watches the sun, but she's the only one I've got eyes for."
And then the chorus is kinda like present day after the story is finished.
And the second verse is kinda like she's teasing him really bad. "Oh she's playing games now." And this flirting/teasing leads to sex. I think that the "I thought I told ya" could refer to something like "I thought I told ya that I wanted to be friends." And the fact that she repeats it after sex means she's confused about where they stand.
And then the flashback to "remember the day we started this, you made the shape of my heart with your hands.." is when she first started flirting with him after they've been friends for a while. And they didn't know how to handle it.
And so now the chorus, (finally)
"Tell me that you love me, and it'll be alright. Are you thinking of me? Just come with me tonight. You know I need you, just like you need me. Can't stop, won't stop, I must be dreaming."
The first two times this is sung, it's from the boy's view. Basically him wanting her to tell him that she loves him like he's always loved her. That the sex wasn't some joke. And he can't stop thinking about her, and won't stop thinking about her. This is like a dream for him because it's what he's been waiting so long for.
So I see this as the girl speaking in the third chorus.. Like she realizes she has feelings for this guy. And she needs reassurance that this guy cares about her and the sex wasn't just him "getting some." She can't believe this is real. That they've finally done it and she realizes she loves him as more than best friends.
I think this is such a cute little story haha :)
I don't care if it's right or wrong because I feel like songs can have as many different meanings as the number of people on this planet. To each his own.
