I think it's about a dysfunctional relationship, sometimes they love each other, sometimes it just doesn't work, and this is one of the hard days.
The girl is trying to change the guy into someone she thinks she wants to be with, and although the guy was apprehensive at first he changed for her, but now he looks back on it and wonders if they would even have fallen in love if he hadn't been that original way anyway.
