I'm convinced this has nothing to do with Tegan's personal relationship with someone else, but rather her own relationship with being homosexual. Because we live in an intolerant world, dark is the only time she can escape from it, and be at peace...in her dreams. "Dark, you can't come soon enough for me."
I can very much relate to this song. I've gone through (and still going through) acceptance to family and friends about my own sexuality. So I can relate.
