It's very tongue and cheek but it sounds like the author has some understanding of what it's like "Being an girl is the only thing that's on my brain" yes that's very true, it's all you ever think, feel and dream about...
"Some people think I might be gay" yes people tend to assume you are gay rather than clock on to the fact that you are the wrong gender.
Lastly, the intense anger expressed in the last verse "Mother, why wasn't I a girl!" that's how you feel too. I don't feel angry at my mother though, I do feel anger at life. Anyway, since this song was released when I was a teenager, i'm pretty sure it was around before "scene kids" and this isn't actually emo/scene music it is punk rock, so whatever...
