I think this song is about somone who's cause him a lot of pain yet he always comes to her no matter what because in the end he always will still care about her, and it kills him that they're having trouble and he doesnt want to fight through it, he wants to lay there with her and feel right instead of constantly feeling this pain and worry of them never being able to have feelings for eachother.
and when he finally is feeling fed up he realizes the only way he's ever really going to get over this is if he leaves her, and its the only way he can feel better about things.
