lol this song pisses me off because i cant figure out what it means I see both the ideas presented above (except the chasing ur dreams one)as being valid in some places but invalid in others ...
the addict version seems pretty legit but the last 2 lines just throw that off .. unless the well start it again could mean he slips again and does whatever drug and then they ahve to start from square one in the detox ... and also the chorus doenst fit ? why are they lonely dreamers if one does drugs and the oher is trying to get him off?

the forgiveness one it seems to make sense because as explained with the one on the floor and other on the cieling and the glass in the mouth, the rest jsut kinda seems like reaching and trying to make the lyrics fit....

When I first herd it (without looking at the lyrics) I felt like it was about a car crash (much like some of their other music). Like they snuck out for a midnight swim and ended up in a car crash. After the car crash the one being on the floor and the oher on the ceiling would just be how they were positioned after the crash ... .and looking behind "the glass in your mouth" i thought just meant glass from the crash and this "looking behind" would just mean forgiving him for the car crash, and he feels entitled to this forgiveness when he says he is "due for" it jsut after. I feel like the "everything is going to be all right, even if hte city ignites" could have been her saying right after the crash that even if she died because of the crash it would be all right ... like she would forgive him .. (i feel like he said the city ignites just because its such a crazy situation that she would die on this simple midnight swim trip it would be like if his whole world burst into flames (ignited)) ... some i wasnt to sure about .. but having been in many hospital rooms ive noticed that their windows are gigantic so that may fit the "and now to get back to the room where theres windows as large as the city below" . Because after the crash they must head to the hospital ... and then as the chorus says the sun will set on them but it will rise again only for them to start over (hoping that they both survive and can get back up and give it another go tomorow) ... (sorry about the spelling .. its late)
