My Interpretation

I think you're correct. My two uncles had to work the farms and lived for the weekend when they were allowed to go into town. One uncle never resented country life, but the other constantly rebelled...getting into trouble and finally "running away' for the city at age 16. He never returned to the farm and even today (in his 80's) still resents farm life...'cause it was NOT easy living back in the day.
