He is grieving his sons death, he wants to forget, but can't at the same time. His son is perhaps the feather in the wind: a memory that seems close, he chases his spirit, but he knows he is dead. Over time, the thread will weave and patch the anguish. The thread represents time itself (this is evident in the last paragraph/stanza). The glow is his undying, but perhaps faltering spirit and love. A fire in light appears weaker.
Second four lines:
Time has passed, he is tired and worn. He again questions his love. His arm is straight and ready to weave. Is he really ready to move on?
Chorus: he is crying out to give his love to his son and/or wife...
The cup is raised part:
Others give him will to sustain (His wife as somebody else suggested), the healing has begun.
Final lines:
His wife provides the cloth that he will repair, then they can be whole again. His son is the driving force that lies within. Together, son, father and mother, must find and use all of their warmth and love (fire) as one cannot live in pain forever. His son is a feather in the wind, a distant memory...
