This song is one of my favorite songs by the Chili Peppers.
My interpretation of it is this:
This band is part of generation x. They don't know where their going or where they've been. They're just there. Empty and alone because no one really knows, not even themselves.
It's about a generation gone arye and even though they were all going through something different all they had was each other. It's like the wave crashin on the shore after it peaks. Or a calm after a storm. That's what this song means to me at least.
