I think this one is about a doomed relationship. He feels deep down that their time together is running out (which is what I think the river running dry line is about).He chooses to live for the moment and stay in the realtionship until the inevitable end, even though he sees they're going towards it full speed (maybe that's why the scene of the incident is a car on a highway, going faster than ever before: he sees the end coming clearer than ever).
