Goddess on a Hiway Lyrics
Got us going faster than we've ever gone before
I got us on a highway, I got us in a car
Got us going faster than we've ever gone before
And I know it ain't gonna last
When I see your eyes arrive
They explode like two bugs on glass
There's a river running dry 'cause of you and me
Far above the ocean, deep under the sea
There's a river running dry 'cause of you and me
And I know it ain't gonna last
When I see your eyes arrive
They explode like two bugs on glass
Goddess going faster than she's ever gone before
She's a goddess on the highway, a goddess in a car
Goddess going faster than she's ever gone before
And I know it ain't gonna last
When I see your eyes arrive
They explode like two bugs on glass
And I know it ain't gonna last
And I know it ain't gonna last
And I know it ain't gonna last
It ain't gonna last, it ain't gonna last

I think this one is about a doomed relationship. He feels deep down that their time together is running out (which is what I think the river running dry line is about). He chooses to live for the moment and stay in the realtionship until the inevitable end, even though he sees they're going towards it full speed (maybe that's why the scene of the incident is a car on a highway, going faster than ever before: he sees the end coming clearer than ever). If so, this is indeed a very sad song.

it's like, it doesn't matter that it ain't gonna last, the here and now is what counts.. so being out on a highway in a fast car with someone, is good enough and that it won't last makes it even better

I love how they mic goddess and got us, great song.

Their subtle variations keep this song fresh each time I hear it.
Like "I got us" goes to "a goddess" and how last rhymes with glass.

the chourus, or refrain "and I know it ain't gonna last" is to me the best part of the song. I love when the music in a song is very possitive and uplifting, but the lyrics are dark or negative, the chourus of the song is a great example of that, and that's what makes this song kick ass

Great song, with a fantastic chorus ! You're right loafer, I won't add anything... Just say this song is perfect when you're... drivin' on the highway !

what does anyone think of the lines:
Far above the ocean and deep under the sea There's a river runnin' dry 'Cause of you and me
Two possible interpretations. One is that it's ecological - environmental damage, and the link to being on a highway - ties in with the line "I know, it ain't gonna last".

The other possibility (and maybe the writer had both in mind) is a river of tears - it ain't gonna last because they're too unstable, too unsettled. There's been too much pass between them. But, the narrator is saying, let's get on and drive.

I felt pretty confident that I understood this song... then I saw the music video for it and it got me thinking and now I'm stuck.

1: I think that 'she' isn't girl, she is destiny. He got them in the car, but she is a goddess in the car. He could not have known what was going to happen. 2: It is possible that 'she' is depression. And he is committing suicide at the end of the video.
