I think this song is so beautiful and first perfectly with Edward's point of view.
I think it's about how Edward thinks he's damned, and Bella still comes to him and wants him.
"She said 'let me sign'" I think is when Bella tells him she wants to be a vampire he thinks of it as her wanting to sign her soul away.
It's "bittersweet" for both of them because Edward finally has someone to complete him but (in his eyes) it means taking away her soul. And for Bella she's found someone to complete her but it means giving up her family and friends.
Despite the "bitter" parts neither of them can stay away, like when "her hands are all twisted"but she's still "pointing at me", the path is twisted, but it's clear how she wants it to end, and how it will end, despite any resistance.
The song is so amazing and that part of the movie makes me cry. I love Rob's voice and I wish he'd write more ^_^
This is a great point-of-view. I think that since it was written before "Twilight," it was definitely dealing with a person "selling" her soul to the devil (in so many terms) to be with a "forbidden love." It is way too short, but that is part of the bittersweet paradox.

It's got nothing to do with Twilight. LOL.
