It's about breaking up, heartbreak and broken dreams. He's disappointed and almost begging her not to end the relationship and walk awy from him.

Disappointed that whatever was supposed to never happened but he clearly understands to 'walk away' is neccesary even if he desperately wants her to stay with him.
