Seems to me it's about someone whos changed for someone( a girl perhaps) and now doesn't like what he's become. "And you always got the best of me

I think the line at the end really drives home the point "Is what you see in me
really what i wanna be?" He doesn't like what he's become for this person and realizes he must change if he wants to be happy.... Thats just what i take from this song
