Seems we were both wrong. I had totally forgotten that the ? & The Mysterians was not the first version, nor were they the composers. To me, they had made it so much their own that I was thinking that it was their song. What I forgot was that the first version was by the Four Seasons, and is a Linzer/Randall composition. Then the Toys (the group responsible for A Lover's Concerto) with their version. The ? & The Mysterians version followed, then the Colour Field, then finally Smash Mouth totally ruined it.
