this song mesmerizes me :) ... i have an idea of what it could be about, but i have such a hard time translating INXS songs sometimes -- many of them could be about so many things. if my translation is correct, i view it as a man in a long distance relationship.

And I guess the lesson was that, while lust was the initial motive for a fling that had no future due to distance, and that distance possibly being seen as an easy-out when all was done, the fling turned out to be a 'love to end all loves' and herein lies the painful, eternal lesson.
