I think this song is about a girl who falls deeply in love with a guy, and he is going through so much, always busy and dealing with his stressful life.....and also so caught up in self pity, and struggles he's facing with his own emotions, and self doubts and insecurities and depression, that he no longer is in love with her and questions if he ever was....despite plans to stay together, he no longer wants to be with her.....
and she believes its a phase, and hangs on to hope and the words of hope he once spoke....and she blames everything on him just being in this sad phase and feeling sorry for himself.....
