this song is absolutely amazing, and of course exemplifies the idea of friend v. relationship, but for gods sake lets not keep drawing parallels with the beach boys. i find that animal collective and their respective solo projects are much more inventive and original than what people keep relating them to.

Supposing you could somehow qualitatively measure ~creativity you would still be wrong. There’s a reason that AC are a blip in the digital age and The Beach Boys are titans of 20th century music AND 1960s youth culture, car culture and beyond. I’m curious know how many people/month will be listening to Panda Bear in 60 years but I doubt it will be the equivalent of 22M in 2025…
