I think this song is sort of stepping back and taking a look at yourself, and thinking what your life would be like if certain things were different.
I also sort of think its kind of someone not being 'good' enough for someone els, and telling yourself if you could ontain certain qualities your lacking you could show them that you are 'good' enough and show them up.
