I think this song is about lust. He says
'Now that you're away, I'm out there without you And I shed a tear between my legs'
I took that to mean that he's sad the other person is not there but he's only sad between his legs...not in his heart. And later he says:
'I'm afraid of one thing, Will I walk away from love knowing nothing, wearing my heart between my legs?'
He's afraid he'll never find real love and that his relationships are only going to be based on lust.
Also : "Though we live in the same city, You live in another state far away from me "
They are physically close but they're not really there for each other.
