I'm sure I read somewhere that this song comes from the band meeting various A & R men from different record companies when they were about to sign their first deal.
I think this has more to do with the time when it was written. Late 80's and The Tories had been in power for far too long, it was a few years before Mrs T stepped down and most of the country either loved her or hated her. I saw this live at the Mean fiddler when the ambulance service were on strike. Obviously, the band were supporting them.
'Just you laugh, cause you're loaded' is a reference to the 'greed is good culture which was prevelant at the time, not caring too much about everyone else who had very little....
