I understand this song can relate strongly to dating a good or even a best friend and it turning out for the worse, however I relate to this song in a different way with some of the lyrics.

I relate to this, as a good friend split with her ex after a long term relationship. He treated her so poorly and all of her friends said she deserved better, yet she remained to stay with him because she loved him. Then she wants to get back together. We try and explain she could try and move on, because we've seen what he does to her, and its because she loves him that she cant move on.

Now hollow all throughout"
After she let her ex get back in her life, he started saying how she cant be friends with us. It put so much tension in the friendship, and in the end, what was such a strong bond with us broke.
