I know what Emo is and I also know what it was.
I grew up on Fugazi, Big Black, Quicksand, etc... etc... when it actually wasn't just a teenage tantrum.
I know what Goth was and what it is now.
Neither genres bear that much similarity to what it was originally.
Both are now good labels of music to avoid for being corporate trash.
US Goth appears to think it's just an image thing - that the music doesn't matter, that you can just be a dodgy emo metal band with make up and that makes you a goth.
And Emo... is just the same image driven bunch of idiots. Ahhh you're so alternative... not.
