In one way, I agree with everyone else... with the whole jealousy for no reason thing... but I also see another meaning...
Maybe the guy was trying to hold onto the girl too tightly, afraid he'd lose her when he had no reason to: "The more you squeeze, the more it slips away" - The more you try to hold onto something, the more you lose it. Also: "When you push on glass it's bound to break" - (The glass being the girl, represented as fragile/delicate)... he tried too hard to make her stay, she had to leave.
So I think she could have left him...
