Well, Lemming, I agree with you on just about everything. However, I don't think you're correct in the assumption that the firewall = God. I think it's more a man-made shield(like a firewall in a car) that "protects." The song then continues with "I'm not alright" so if he was in fact safe behind God already, why would he be "not alright"?
I think that he is talking about coming out from behind his own barriers having God burn them down, revealing everything and healing him.
